Originally named Sears Holdings from its created to 2017, Sears Alliance was created from the merger of Sears, Roebuck & Co., and Kmart Corporation in 2005.


2004 November 2004 - Both companies have merged and start with the reorganization of both companies' assets into one entity.

December 2004 - While the reorganization fully starting up, Sears wanted to Wards Holdings to reacquire the Buffeteria chain. Wards declined, stating that they could do better with the chain than they did, and they created it.

2005 March 2005 - Sears gains full ownership of Prodigy Communications as IBM pulls out of the joint venture.

October 2005 - Sears acquired 25% of automobile manufacturer NAVISTAR.

November 2005 - Sears announced they expand the Kmart Express concept into free-standing locations.

2006 April 2006 - To streamline the use of private-label brands within all chains, created the division Clothespins.
2007 Clothespins introduces the Smart Sense private label brand for food, health and beauty items, and household goods.

May 2007 - Sears acquired 20% of Restoration Hardware.

June 2007 - Sears Holdings announces the opening of its press conference to the public with the expansion into the 3-day convention, SearsFest.

2008 July 2008 - Sears acquired the rights to all of their record labels and studios from EMI, creating the subsidiary Sears Music Group.
2009 July 2009 - Prodigy Communications announces 'Prodigy TV' to the public with the launch date for the service to go with it.
2010 April 2010 - the Alphaline cable TV service is launched to the public.

July 2010 - Sports Authority launched a new store brand "S.A. Elite" in mid-2010, based on consumer research and testing. These stores are smaller than typical Sports Authority outlets and carry high-end sports apparel and accessories.

2013 May 2013 - Kmart launched their first KDollar stores.

July 2013 - Sears acquired 38% of hospitality giant, Holiday Corporation.

September 2013 - Sears acquired Lowe's to merge the brand into Builders Square's fold.

November 2013 - Orchard Supply Hardware was put as a sister brand to Builders Square.

2016 June 2016 - Sears launches the "130 years of winning you over" limited-time event to celebrate Sears' 130th anniversary.

September 2016 - Sears launched the MyCar service to compete with Carvana.

2017 February 2017 - After a year of buildup, Your Style by Sears was launched to the public.

April 2017 - The Clothespins division is now known around the retail industry as the biggest collection of private brands.

June 2017 - The Sears Services division is renamed to the Sears Neighborhood division.

August 2017 - ChildStyle by Sears was launched as a children's sub-brand to the Your Style service.

December 2017 - Sears Holdings bought out the entire Chipotle Concepts division from McDonald's Corporation for $400 Million.

2018 January 2018 - Sears announces a new division for their new restaurant chains: Savory Restaurants.

October 2018 - Sears revived the Soul Daddy chain with the reopening of their Mall of America location.

2019 May 2019 - MyCar opened its first locations in the Philadelphia and Atlanta areas.

July 2019 - Lands' End announced that they would close all of their 'store-in-a-store' locations.

August 2019 - Sears Holdings bought Bally Total Fitness and The Vitamin Shoppe from Irving Place Capital for $761 million.

2020 June 2020 - Clothespins 2020 stream is launched, showing dozens of new brands.
